“In regard to the art I make, I’m not trying to make a statement. I’m trying to find my way. Learning how to navigate this experience of being alive. This is essentially what motivates me to make art.
It is not an attempt to articulate concepts, beliefs, or opinions. It is an attempt to express feeling, and I do not mean emotion. I mean - this feeling of being alive; experiencing emotions, thoughts, actions and reactions.
Pushing paint around on a canvas - that is - creating imagery, is an ideal medium in this regard. Through this medium I am liberated from the packaging of words. No one needs to know my language or understand my thoughts or my emotional vocabulary to be able to immediately engage with what they are looking at, and thus to experience a response - some kind of resonance - as a result. That response, that resonance, is what the artwork is about. It is beyond words.”
